Sitges Festival

Korean director Yeon Sang-ho's 'Train to Busan' has been awarded at the Sitges Film Festival.


Awards

'Train to Busan' was awarded by the public on several occasions, at the Fantasia Film Festival and at the Donostia Horror Film Week.


Busan

Gong Yoo, the main character of the film, was born in Busan as were some of the cast members.


Cannes Film Festival

The film was officially selected at the Cannes Film Festival and was highly commented and valued by critics.


Ticket office

Train to Busan was the highest-grossing opening in Korean movie history with 872,389 viewers on a single day and 1,438,003 total viewers on the first weekend. In this way it surpassed great productions such as Captain America Civil War.












Role

The role of Soo Ahn (the daughter of the main actor) was originally going to be played by a boy but at the casting they were captivated by the performance of the girl Kim Soo Ahn; so much so that they adapted the role for her.

Filming time

Filming began on April 26 and ended on August 19, 2015.

 

Reunion

The film serves as a reunion for Gong Yoo and Jung Yu-mi, who starred in the 2011 film Silenced.


Awards II

The Korean film was awarded the Audience Award, Critics Award and Best Visual Effects at the Malaga Fancine Festival and the Audience Award at the Molins de Rei Horror Film Festival.
